Holiday season can be a difficult time for people who are missing loved ones who have passed away. Remembering them in the company of others who have gone through similar loss can provide comfort and fellowship.

Parkview Huntington Hospital (PHH) will host an event to offer that comfort and spirit of community on Sunday, December 8, at 6:30 p.m. “Lights to Remember” will take place in the hospital’s main lobby at 2001 Stults Road in Huntington.

This is the third year for the event, which will include light snacks and refreshments, music, and words from Doug Selig, vice president, patient care services, Parkview Huntington Hospital and Parkview Wabash Hospital. At the beginning of the event, there will be a moment of silence with the lighting of candles to remember guests’ loved ones.

“The holiday season is a time for light-hearted gatherings with family and friends,” said Selig. “But it is also a time for reflection. We created this event to support those who are feeling the absence of lost loved ones and offer them a way to remember those special people while experiencing the warmth of community. We hope many folks will join us, and if they attended last year, they are certainly welcome to participate again.”

In addition to finding solace and support, individuals can have their loved ones’ names read aloud during the event and receive a special keepsake: a heart-shaped memorial ornament. The ceramic ornaments will be hand-crafted by hospital staff members.

“We’ve created a different ornament each year so people who continue to find this event meaningful for them year after year may choose to build a keepsake collection for themselves,” said Sonya Foraker, finance leader for Parkview Huntington Hospital and the Parkview Samaritan/EMS/Emergency Department service line.

Registration is required for Lights to Remember. Visit parkview.com/lightstoremember to register by Thursday, December 5 and specify the name of the loved one to be honored at the event. Guests may bring other family members or friends along with them. The number of guests should be specified on the online registration form.

Anyone unable to attend Lights to Remember can still receive the keepsake and have their loved one’s name read aloud at the event by emailing Foraker at sonya.foraker@parkview.com.
